A year-long program dedicated to exploring the range of ceramic and jewelry-making techniques and self-expression. Students will learn about the exchange of goods on the Silk Road and the impact cross-cultural collaboration has had around the globe, including here in the Utica area. This program raises awareness about local culture and allows diverse populations to make community connections. Students will partake in the study of blue-and-white porcelain, a frequently traded commodity along the Silk Road, learn a variety of entrepreneurial skills, and be provided with information on becoming a self-sustaining artist.
This is a free of charge program.
Silk Road Artisans supported by the Bringham Family Fund as well as the Gabriel, Joseph and Lila Mandour Karam Fund through the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Human Technologies Corporation, UpMobility Foundation.
