ARTIST BIO
Angela Marken is a contemporary representational artist. Her oil paintings focus on landscapes and seascapes that convey atmosphere and environment through textural brushwork, layered glazes, and a tactile surface quality. Angela received her MFA in Painting from Laguna College of Art and Design and her BFA from SUNY Potsdam. She is a bicoastal artist that exhibits work in New York and Los Angeles. She currently lives and works in Upstate New York.

ARTIST STATEMENT
"My current body of work consists of landscape paintings that convey atmosphere and environment through textural brushwork, layered glazes, and a tactile surface quality. Imagery of dense forests, weaving cloud formations, and vast lakes are prominent throughout my work and are directly influenced by my surroundings growing up in Upstate New York and Upper Peninsula Michigan. So often I see small instances of beauty in nature and I will try to commit them to memory to bring into my work. I prefer to paint scenes using a combination of imagination and observation, mixing elements from memory and direct observation to create an image that conveys the atmosphere and feeling."
